There are 6 Intensive Care Units, each having their own configuration of medical devices. There are connected monitors from Siemens, Hewlett Packard (Philips) and Datex. Connected respirators are from Draeger and Siemens.

Other Information
This hospital has started with QCare in 1995 on 7 beds. Until 1999 the hospital collaborated in the development of QCare. From 1999 to 2000, the other 35 beds have been installed.

C³ has trained a small group of physicians and nurses, who trained the other 160 nurses and 30 physicians. There is one nurse who is for 50% assigned to the training of new staff members and the configuration of QCare. This is a training hospital, where there is a change of staff every 6 months.

Other information
The monitoring devices (Siemens) are linked through a central gateway computer that is communicating its results to the QCare system.

On specific request, C³ has developed a high-resolution integration of all captured signals. This additional application allows physicians to go back in time in any of the captured signals, for a period of 10 days. Within this period, they can decide to keep parts of the signals permanently into the QCare database. Results that are not marked for storage are deleted after the 10th day. A group of 2 nurses, one physician and one IT professional has been trained. These persons have trained the other 30 nurses and 5 physicians.

Other information
This is a merge of two hospitals situated on a distance of 15 km in the Charleroi region. Both hospitals share their network and database, thus allowing users to see patient data independently of the location.

The Spacelabs monitors are used as Windows terminals: users accede monitor data as well as QCare ICU from the same work device. This choice was made as a space saving solution.

Other information
In collaboration with this University hospital, C³ has developed QCare OR. This system allows the management of all resources involved with the daily working of the Operating Theatre.
C³ personnel as well as the local IT staff supply installation and training.

Other information
The ICU in this hospital developed its own system and used it for about 8 years. Together with C3, the IT department converted the old system to QCare ICU, transferring the existing configuration and data.

As an extension to QCare ICU, the hospital also decided to implement QCare Nursing: Thus all information before, during and after the stay on the intensive care unit is available on-line.

Part of the QCare Nursing implementation was the development and implementation of QCare PDA. This module allows for a specific patient, to lookup tasks, order details, balances and results, as well as to introduce information about drug administration, execution of tasks and the status of catheters and drains.

The software has been developed in such a way that the user can see and introduce the informaton while being on-line. Changes in the patients status are applied immediately and are visible at every workstation.

September 2005
After a successful installation of the ICU and Nursing modules, the hospital has decided to have C3 as its partner for automating the emergency department and the operating theatre as well.

With this choice, QCare modules will now be used all over the hospital.

QCare ICU is being implemented in order to safeguard quality settings and to streamline standard operating procedures. The decision support engine produces different types of messages and warnings concerning the patient. The Atrium hospital will use the GASTON (Medecs) decision support server.

Other information
In a first movement, a proof of concept was organised in order to verify whether the QCare prescription module answered the expectations. Especially the prescription of medication was focussed.

After positive feedback on this proof of concept, the hospital decided to implement QCare on a hospital wide basis. The existing functionality supporting the prescrption process between physician, nurse and pharmacist is being refined together with the UHA. QCare is in direct communication with the pharmacy: all drug information available will be synchronised with QCare; New orders are communicated directly to the pharmacy, allowing the latter to start the supply process; The medication given is then sent to the pharmacy for consumption registration and stock management.

During 2005 and 2006, the hospials 600 beds will be installed with the QCare Suite Care Plan. Using a wireless network and specifically designed computer carts, the most recent prescription data can be found for each patient and the execution of orders can be documented bedside.
